A CSX employee was killed when he was struck by a locomotive at a rail yard in Chattanooga.

"At approximately 5:00 pm Saturday, CSX employee Allen Lowe was fatally struck by a locomotive while he was working in our rail yard in Wauhatchie, TN," a CSX spokesperson told Channel 3.

CSX is working with local law enforcement to investigate.

Lowe had been an employee for 24 years and is survived by his two children, CSX added.

"CSX has reached out to his family to offer assistance during this very difficult time, and we extend our deepest sympathies to them," the spokesperson explained.

CSX said that safety is their top priority:

"Safety is CSX’s highest priority and our goal is for every employee to return home safely. Losing a fellow railroader is difficult for everyone at CSX, and we will conduct a thorough investigation to understand the cause of this incident."
