SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - A music and arts festival in coastal Georgia has been postponed as its founder recovers from a near-fatal shooting.

The Savannah Morning News reports Tom Townsend shelved plans for the 2019 A-Town Get Down festival in Savannah. Townsend has been recovering since September, when he was shot in the neck during an attempted carjacking in his hometown of St. Louis.

Townsend started the festival in 2011 in memory of his son, Alex Townsend, a Savannah artist and student who died in a car crash at age 21.

Mike English is senior vice president of the festival sponsor, Queensborough National Bank & Trust. English says that in the festival's absence, a fundraiser will be held in June to benefit the Alex Townsend Memorial Foundation.
