UPDATE: Suspect police say 'intentionally' struck man with vehicle arrested, per Chattanooga police
UPDATE: Chattanooga police said the man they say 'intentionally' ran over a man in a Hixson parking was arrested Wednesday night.
Charles Luke Jackson, 26, booked into the Hamilton County Jail and charged with criminal homicide.
"Chattanooga Fugitive Detectives with the assistance of Hamilton County Fugitive Detectives, US Marshall's, and Soddy-Daisy Police Department have located and taken Charles Jackson into custody," a Chattanooga Police Department spokesperson said.
Jackson was wanted in the death of Darllel Brown.
Around 3:15 am Wednesday, police were called to the 1900 block of Northpoint Boulevard.
Officers found Brown lying in the parking lot when they arrived.
Brown was taken to an area hospital where he died.
Investigators spoke with several witnesses.
One witness told investigators that he and Brown were sitting in Brown's vehicle in the parking lot when it was struck by a Nissan pickup truck being pushed by Jackson and another man.
The witness said he confronted Jackson and the other man about the damage and they got into an argument.
"The witness known to police advised Mr. Jackson approached Mr. Brown and began throwing punches at him," the affidavit explained.
Brown, according to what the witness told police, then began to walk away to "gain distance and diffuse the situation." This is when Jackson got into Brown's vehicle, court records said.
The affidavit explained that the witness said he got in front of the vehicle to try to stop Jackson from taking it, but he was unsuccessful.
"The witness known to police advised when Mr. Jackson put the vehicle in gear he jumped out of the way, and this is when he took off at a high rate of speed straight for Mr. Brown," police said.
Jackson then "intentionally" ran over Brown, police said. The vehicle finally came to a stop when Jackson crashed into some trucks.
The witness said Jackson then fled the scene in the Nissan pickup truck.
Police said security videos from surrounding businesses confirmed witness accounts.
The witness added that Brown did not have "access or possess" any weapons and had already walked away from the fight when he was struck.
Jackson is due in court on April 16.
