Governor Lee reacts to I-75 South bridge beam collapse
Governor Bill Lee was in Chattanooga Tuesday night for the “SkillsUSA Tennessee VIP Dinner” at the convention center.
Channel 3 spoke with Governor Lee about the bridge collapse and the status of the state’s infrastructure.
"Highways and bridges are the arteries of prosperity in our state and I know that deferring maintenance is a terrible idea. This bridge was inspected in 2018 and was deemed safe and it has been subsequently inspected since the accident. What occurred here was the bridge was struck and that caused a failure. But, I feel completely confident it is safe to travel now after repairs. We will make both lanes accessible shortly," says Governor Lee.
The governor says he'll be looking into the incident at the I-75 bridge very closely over the next few days but says more importantly, he'll be looking into how the state maintains its infrastructure.
