UPDATE: Driver who struck fallen concrete beam on I-24 released from hospital
UPDATE: The driver who crashed into a concrete beam last week has been released from the hospital.
The beam fell from a bridge at the I-24/ I-75 split last Monday.
The driver's family says he is improving each day.
PREVIOUS STORY: Channel 3 has learned that the driver who struck the fallen beam on Interstate 24 is listed in critical condition after Monday's partial collapse.
The driver has still not yet been identified.
Chattanooga police say they have responded to eight crashes between July 18, 2018 and April 1, 2019 on I-75 within 500 feet of where the bridge beam collapsed.
The crash that happened at the collapse on Monday is one of those eight crashes and the only one with injuries reported.
Crews worked late Monday to clear the two sections on the interstate after the beam collapse.
One lane of the Interstate 75 southbound bridge has re-opened to traffic.
The two traffic lanes to Interstate 24 westbound were opened late Monday.
