Alternate routes to avoid I-24/I-75 split where beam collapsed
Here are some alternate routes that might help you get around I-24/I-75 split while crews work to repair damage caused from a beam collapse on Monday:
- US 41, also known as Ringgold Road
- Ooltewah-Ringgold Road
- GA 71, also known as Cleveland Highway
- TN 60, also known as Dalton Pike
Crews were able to open one lane on I-75 Southbound and both lanes of Interstate 24 Westbound at the interchange. But drivers should expect some delays in the area with the reduced traffic volume.
Harry Treadaway was impacted by the traffic. He was coming from Rome, Georgia and headed to Knoxville to pick up a truck when he ran into the issues.
"We noticed the back up around Dalton and my significant friend called me from Rome and said the bridge at the split going toward Nashville, retaining wall, some of it had come off," he said.
Crews do not know what caused to collapse.
Emergency repairs are underway.
Traffic crews advise drivers to avoid the area until further notice.
One person was injured when their car drove into the beam that fell onto the interstate, they were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
