TBI: Tips from public help lead to arrest of West Tennessee murder suspect
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said tips from the public helped lead to the arrest of a man wanted in a West Tennessee homicide.
Corey Leavitt, Jr., 20, has been charged in the death of 19-year-old James Dale Kelly. Authorities found Kelly's body Friday in the 7000 block of Buena Vista Road. The TBI said he had been shot.
The TBI worked with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office to investigate the crime.
"During the course of the investigation, authorities obtained an image of a silver vehicle from surveillance equipment near the scene, which was released to the public on Saturday evening," a TBI spokesperson said.
The TBI said ongoing investigative efforts and tips submitted by the public led them to Leavitt.
Authorities took Leavitt into custody Sunday.
He was charged with reckless homicide and is being held in the Carroll County Jail without bond.
