Vietnam veterans honored in Chattanooga Wednesday
The City of Chattanooga declared Wednesday, March 27 National Vietnam Veterans Day.
A Vietnam War 50th anniversary commemoration ceremony to thank and honor veterans was held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery Wednesday morning.
The event included a pinning ceremony for all Vietnam veterans in attendance who had not yet been pinned and a wreath placement to honor Vietnam era veterans.
Retired Navy Captain Mickey McCamish said honoring his fellow Vietnam veterans is important.
"When most of us returned from Vietnam, there wasn't the parades, there wasn't the welcome home that you've seen today," Captain McCamish said. "While some of America turned their backs on us, we never turned our backs on America."
This ceremony is part of a national honoring and remembrance of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War lasting from 2012 until 2025.
