Man arrested for trying to smuggle drugs through Chattanooga airport
A man is behind bars after he was caught trying to smuggle drugs while traveling through the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport.
Chattanooga police said Shawn E. Williams, 30, was arrested for trying to smuggle around three pounds of marijuana, hundreds of THC oil vials and drug paraphernalia.
Wednesday, CPD Narcotics Investigators learned from another law enforcement agency that someone was "transporting a significant amount of THC oil into Chattanooga."
CPD investigators and Chattanooga Airport Police worked together to set up surveillance on Williams.
A CPD K9 alerted officers to Williams checked bags.
Williams was detained after he got his bags from the conveyor belt. He then allowed officers to search his bags.
Investigators found 399 THC oil vials (11.9 lbs) with 90 percent THC in each one. They also found 2.7 pounds of marijuana packed in vacuum sealed bags.
In Williams' vehicle, investigators found a vacuum sealer and vacuum bags.
Williams faces charges of possession of marijuana for resale and THC vapes for resale.
