BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Forecasters say at least two tornadoes are to blame for damage left across a wide area in Alabama overnight.

The National Weather Service says teams have confirmed tornadoes occurred Thursday night in Cullman and Chilton Counties.

The weather service says it's checking for damage at nine sites across 10 counties in all, so the total number of twisters could increase.

Some of the worst damage occurred in Blount County, where high winds damaged buildings and knocked down power lines. Video from there and a neighboring county shows trees lying across mobile homes and roofs ripped off farm buildings.

No serious injuries or deaths were reported.

Alabama Power Co. says as many as 9,500 homes and businesses were without electricity at one point.
