UPDATE: A semi-truck overturned on Highway 8 near Dunlap and was left overnight because of severe weather.

Sequatchie County Emergency Management officials say the driver of the semi crashed into a guardrail and went down the embankment.

Moments after this semi overturned, a driver called 911.

“We were coming down towards Dunlap. We were driving, and he went off the side of the mountain,” the caller said. “We're turning around to see if he's alright.”

Sequatchie EMA and 911 Director Winfred Smith said when crews arrived, the semi was on its side and angled in trees.

“We notified the Dunlap Fire Department to come out to help extricate the two victims out,” Smith said.

Smith said it took nearly three hours to cut the two men out. He says they were okay.

“They were talking with the medics, and they took both of them to Erlanger downtown Chattanooga for evaluation,” he explained.

Officials told Channel 3 it has been challenging clearing the semi from the highway. The wrecker crew said they had to separate the truck from the trailer in order pull it up from the embankment.

It's not clear what trucking company the two men were with. Officials tell us they were hauling some sort of filtering equipment.
