UPDATE: The Sequatchie County Sheriff's Office said they have identified the person going door-to-door fundraising, and he is "verified by the Rescue Squad."

"The male individual David Jones is collecting money for the Rescue Squad..." a sheriff's office spokesperson said.

If Jones stops by your home, he is to present credentials showing he is with the Sequatchie County Rescue Squad, the sheriff's office added.

He is also driving a black sedan.

"Mr. Jones is not affiliated with any county or city fire departments," the sheriff's office explained.

PREVIOUS STORY: Sequatchie County residents are advised to use caution if someone comes to their door asking for a donation for the fire department.

The Dunlap Fire Department said someone is going door to door in the community collecting money for either the fire department or rescue squad.

"Please know that the Dunlap Fire Department does not send any of its members, nor any representatives of the city, door to door for fundraising purposes," a fire department spokesperson explained.

Any resident who has someone come to their door should try to get as much information as possible about the person and call police.
