UPDATE: The woman whose body was found during a fire on Friday, March 8 has been identified.

The Chattanooga Fire Department said the woman was 60-year-old Dianne Harden.

"The Hamilton County Medical Examiner's Office determined that Ms. Harden most likely died from smoke inhalation," a fire department spokesperson explained.

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire.

This is the first fire-related fatality in Chattanooga in 2019.


PREVIOUS STORY: Chattanooga fire officials say a woman’s body was found during a fire at a townhome in East Brainerd Friday afternoon.

It happened around 3:40 p.m. on Lenny Lane.

Fire department spokesperson Bruce Garner says crews arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke coming from the roof and found a large fire in the front of the home when they got inside.

As firefighters were trying to get the blaze under control, Garner says they found the body of an adult female in an upstairs bedroom.

The woman’s body was sent to the Hamilton County Medical Examiner's Office to determine an exact cause of death.

Her name has not been released.
