ASHEVILLE, N.C. ( --- Chattanooga’s Lakelyn Bouldin led all scorers in the Mocs’ 72-62 win over UNCG Thursday night in the quarterfinal round of the Ingles Southern Conference Championship presented by General Shale.

The win avenged the Mocs loss last season to the Spartans in the SoCon quarterfinals last season and a regular season loss this year.

“We left the tournament last year with a bad taste in our mouth and (UNC) Greensboro gave us that,” Chattanooga head coach Katie Burrows said. “So we were excited to get a little redemption for that, for last year and for last week (53-49 loss at UNCG).”

Bouldin was one of four Chattanooga players in double digits with a game-high 20 points. She was 7-of-7 from the free throw line and drained three 3-pointers in the win and added eight rebounds in the effort. Arianne Whitaker recorded her first double-double of the year with 13 points and a season-high tying 17 boards. She added in six blocked shots and a team-best three assists.

Also in double figures was Morgan Hill and Brooke Burns who each had 10 points and three rebounds. Burns dished out three assists and Hill was 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Freshman Eboni Williams scored all eight of her points in the final quarter and had five rebounds.

The Mocs started the game on a 15-2 run and led 23-10 at the end of the first quarter. Seven different players scored in the opening frame for the Mocs. UNCG responded in the second period outscoring UTC 12-8 and trailed the Mocs 31-22 at the half. The Spartans got no closer than nine points until late in the fourth quarter when they made their charge.

Bouldin made a quick move for a layup to put Chattanooga up 60-46 with 4:29 to play. The Spartans put together a 12-3 run over a 3:02 period to cut the Mocs lead to 63-58. UNCG began fouling to try to stay in the game, but UTC connected on 9-of-10 from the free throw line to push the lead back to double digits in the final seconds.

After getting to within five, UNCG put Hill on the line and she connected on both free throws. Nadine Soliman missed her 3-point attempt and Burns grabbed the rebound and was immediately fouled. She hit both of her attempts and the Spartans ran down the court and Aja Boyd hit a jumper to make it 67-60 with 30 seconds to play.

Chattanooga called timeout to advance the ball and Burns was fouled as soon as the ball was inbounded. She made just one free throw with 26 seconds to play and the Mocs led 68-60 as UNCG called their own time out to advance the ball.

Nadine Soliman slipped the defense and drove down the right side for a layup to make it 68-62, but that was all for the Spartans.

UTC went 4-for-4 from the free throw line down the stretch and the Spartans missed their only layup attempt and both free throws.

The Mocs got off to a hot start shooting 53.3 percent from the floor in the opening frame. They closed out the game making 22-of-54 from the floor and 7-of-18 from beyond the arc. UTC was 21-of-27 from the free throw line and outrebounded UNCG 43-39.

Soliman scored 11 of her team-high 19 points in the final quarter. She had seven rebounds and three assists. Also in double figures was Aja Boyd who had a team-best eight rebounds to go along with 12 points and three blocked shots. Cece Crudup added 14 points on 6-of-11 field goals.

UNCG shot just 18.8 percent (3-16) in the opening period and not much better in the second making 4-of-19 (21.1%). The Spartans closed out the game making 25-of-72 (34.7%) and was 6-of-18 from the 3-point line while connecting on just 6-of-14 from the charity stripe.
