A woman was killed Wednesday night when her car went off the road and struck a telephone pole and then a billboard sign.

Chattanooga police say that silver Scion iQ was traveling south in the 3800 block of Hixson Pike through a curve. The car went straight instead of negotiating the turn and ran off the right side of the roadway, striking a telephone pole.

After hitting the telephone pole, the car went airborne and struck the steel I-beam base of a billboard sign with the roof of the vehicle, "completely wrapping around the I-beam," according to police.

The driver, a 60-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.
