UPDATE: Man faces charges after firefighters find weed while fighting apartment fire
UPDATE: Chattanooga firefighters found marijuana in plain sight while battling an apartment fire, and now a man is facing multiple drug charges.
Firefighters were called to an apartment fire in the 5700 block of Lake Resort Drive Wednesday.
While investigating the blaze, firefighters found marijuana in plain view inside the apartment.
A Chattanooga Narcotics detective was called to the scene to help.
Inside the apartment, the detective found baggies of marijuana, loose boxes of marijuana and around 6.2 grams of THC Wax known as DAB.
The suspect, who lived in the apartment, was identified as Hunter Watts.
Watts was later found and arrested at a home on Sterling Road.
He faces charges of:
- Drugs General Category for Resale
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Extracting Marijuana Concentrate
He also faces a charge of aggravated domestic assault for a separate incident.
Watts is due in court on March 14.
PREVIOUS STORY: Chattanooga Firefighters battled an afternoon fire at the Marina Pointe apartments Wednesday.
Firefighters responded to an apartment fire call at 5750 Lake Resort Drive in Chattanooga just before 1:30 p.m.
According to Battalion Chief Chris Warren, heavy smoke was visible from the second floor of an apartment building in the Marina Pointe complex.
Upon arrival, firefighters were informed that there may be an individual inside the building.
This information sparked a call for additional firefighters and equipment, a second alarm response.
The fire was quickly extinguished and damage was contained to the unit in which the fire began.
While no injuries were reported, the fire did displace four people.
The apartment complex will provide another place for the displaced victims to stay.
