A Chattanooga pediatrician will have to pay the State of Tennessee over $125,000.

Dr. Ricardo Causo was accused of TennCare fraud, according to the Office of the Attorney General.

Tennessee Attorney General Herbet H. Slatery III reached a settlement with Causo which will require him to pay $125,897.65.

“TennCare funds are not unlimited,” said Herbert H. Slatery III. “And this office will continue to fight for money wasted on fraudulent claims- money that should be going to treat a vulnerable population.”

Over a five year period, the state alleges, under the Tennessee Medicaid False Claims Act, that Casuo "improperly submitted claims to the TennCare program for prolonged services that he did not render," the Office of the AG added.

As a result, Causo received money for prolonged services he did not perform.
