WATCH LIVE: Conservative leaders speak at CPAC
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw will both be part of a national conference of conservative leaders in Maryland this week, joining President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and other national Republicans over four days.
While Cruz has frequently been a top draw during the Conservative Political Action Conference, Crenshaw, a Houston Republican, will be making his first appearance, leading a session on Wednesday morning about leadership.
“At #CPAC2019 he’ll share what it really means to serve your country and why America will always be worth fighting for,” CPAC organizers said on social media promoting Crenshaw who is fast becoming a big draw in GOP circles nationally.
Last week, Crenshaw was a guest of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy at a GOP fundraiser in McCarthy’s hometown of Bakersfield, California. And the National Republican Congressional Committee this week featured Crenshaw in a mass fundraising email that emphasizes his background as a retired Navy SEAL.
“I’ve fought for the past 12 years to protect our nation — first as a Navy SEAL, and now as a Congressman,” Crenshaw is quoted in the letter saying. “I’m not backing down on the fight to keep America safe. I hope you don’t either.”
Cruz, meanwhile, will be featured on Friday morning during a session on border security with the National Review’s Rich Lowry. The Cruz session is sandwiched between sessions featuring White House senior adviser Kellyanne Conway and Pence.
