The heavy rain in the Tennessee Valley has forced officials to close some area roads on Tuesday night.

A 911 dispatcher says the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is in the process of closing Cummings Highway due to standing water.

Dispatch says the off ramp from I-24 to Cummings Highway is also shut down because of rising water.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area, especially the off ramp because officials say vehicles will not be able to get through the water.

According to dispatch, the following area roads are closed due to flooding:

  • 5400 block of Dayton Boulevard
  • Castle Drive at Rogers Road
  • 1900 block of Dodson Avenue
