When there's a celebration in Whitwell, the whole town is invited. Especially when it's a chance to honor their 2018 state champions.

The 15-0 Tigers football team packed the gym on Sunday afternoon to receive their state championship rings.

The team hosted a ceremony honoring the local businesses and community members who helped fund the team's rings.

As for the rings themselves, they are decked out in seven red stones on each side of the Whitwell "W" and one red stone below it to commemorate their school record 15 wins.

The Tigers won the TSSAA 1A state champions in a 7-6 victory over Cornersville back on December 1st. It's the first state championship in any sport for Whitwell High School.
