Hamilton County school officials say schools will be closed on Friday, February 15, due to sickness “among staff and students.”

Hamilton County Department of Education (HCDE) spokesperson Tim Hensley says the decision was made after the district monitored the number of absences by students and staff over the past week.

“The number of absences related to illness in the teaching staff tomorrow will make it difficult for the district to provide a quality day of instruction,” Hensley said in a press release. “All twelve-month employees report as scheduled on Friday.”

Hensley says the school system will open seven locations for school-aged childcare to help parents on Friday.

The following childcare locations will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.: Battle Academy, East Brainerd Elementary, East Ridge Elementary, Harrison Elementary, Middle Valley Elementary, Red Bank Elementary, and Wolftever Creek Elementary.

Hamilton County schools will be closed on Monday, February 18, for President’s Day.

Students are expected to return to the classroom on Tuesday, February 19.
