The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office arrested an East Ridge High School student for statutory rape on Tuesday.

HCSO spokesperson Matt Lea says a faculty member found 19-year-old Tegra Mutubwa engaging in sexual activity with a female student and notified the school resource officer.

The SRO conducted an investigation and learned the students had previously engaged in sexual activity.

Lea says the age difference between the students led to Mutubwa being charged with two counts of statutory rape.

Lea says one of the charges is from Tuesday’s incident and the second charge is from the previous encounter between the students.

Mutubwa is waiting to be booked at the Hamilton County Jail.
