The Chattanooga Department of Public Works said Tuesday's snow day cost them more than $27,000.

In preparation for Tuesday's winter weather, the Chattanooga Department of Public Works said it loaded all of its 1,035-gallon brine tanks Sunday. Monday, an eight-vehicle brine operation took place to cover Chattanooga's roadways. Tuesday, the department had 20 heavy equipment vehicles compete with salt and sand spreaders ready if needed.

"In total, the Chattanooga Department of Public Works applied eighteen loads of brine, and three tandem loads of salt and sand, traveling 528 miles," a department spokesperson explained.

The cost breaks down into three categories:

  1.  $6,629.10 for materials
  2. $8,575.54 for labor
  3. $11,878.63 for equipment

This brings the total cost for Tuesday's winter weather to $27,083.27.
