A man faces multiple charges after he carjacked a man and forced him to drive him to a gas station.

Just after 3:15 am, Hamilton County Sheriff's deputies received a call from the Kangaroo Express at 13424 Dayton Pike about a stolen vehicle.

The victim told deputies that he had been assaulted by a person in the Soddy-Daisy area. The suspect then forced the victim to take him to the Kangaroo Express, a sheriff's department spokesperson explained.

The victim was able to escape at the gas station, but the suspect took off in the vehicle.

Deputies were contacted later Sunday morning around 8:45 about a crash with injuries that had occurred on Pythian Road in Harrison.

When deputies arrived at the site of the crash, a suspect took off into the woods. The individual was taken into custody a short time later.

A person riding in the vehicle with the suspect was taken to an area hospital and is expected to be OK.

Deputies determined that the vehicle involved in the crash was the same one stolen from the gas station, a sheriff's department spokesperson added.

The HCSO identified the suspect as Fred Jefferson Cagle III. He was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Carjacking
  • Kidnapping
  • Leaving the scene of an injury crash
  • Failure to render aid
  • Driving on revoked
  • Theft of property over 10000
  • Assault
  • Reckless endangerment

The sheriff's office is still investigating the incident.
