Clouds will decrease this evening with temperatures in the 40s, and then overnight lows in the upper 20s to low 30s.

Monday will be pleasant with warm temperatures in the mid-50s. It will be partly cloudy with clouds increasing later in the day. Try to enjoy the day as big changes will be happening with a blast of cold arctic air from Tuesday through Thursday.

On Tuesday morning, a cold front moves into our area. The high for Tuesday will occur around midnight with temperatures mostly dropping through the day. There may be a slight increase in temperatures in the late afternoon for a secondary high in the low 30s, but overall, Tuesday will be a cold day with temperatures falling.

Precipitation will start in the morning hours as rain around 1-4AM and then transition over to sleet and snow as the temperatures continue to cool from west to east. The timing for snow should be about 7AM to 12PM. As of now, snow accumulations are forecasted at about 0.5-1" in Chattanooga and valley locations in southern Rhea, Hamilton, Walker, and Catoosa Counties, about 1.5-2" in Cleveland, Dalton, and eastern plateau, 2.5" in Athens, and then higher amounts in the higher elevations to the east and far west (Grundy, Franklin) at 2.5-3". Highest accumulations should be east and southeast of Chattanooga. These forecasted totals will continue to be tweaked, so please stay tuned to the Channel 3 Storm Alert Team.

Even if you do not receive much snow, any precipitation can cause problems on the roads with temperatures falling on Tuesday and slick spots developing. Black ice is a concern for Tuesday into Wednesday morning, so be careful driving.

Behind the front will be much colder arctic air, so for Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures will be cold with highs in the mid-30s and lows in the mid to upper teens. Both days will have mostly sunny skies.

There will be another slight chance for showers and wintry mix on Friday with mostly cloudy skies.
