Washington state man arrested in Chattanooga after attempting to have sex with a minor
A Washington state man is behind bars in Chattanooga after a sting operation conducted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Chattanooga Police Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
49-year-old Mark Gould was arrested on charges of rape of a child, sexual exploitation of a minor, and especially aggravated exploitation of a minor.
According to the affidavit obtained by WRCB, it states Gould corresponded electronically with undercover officers via text and email about having sex with a minor.
In the report, it says Gould flew from Washington and arrived in Chattanooga where he met with an undercover officer, whom he believed to be the step-father of a 9-year-old girl.
Officials claim that Gould knowingly attempted to engage in sexual relations with a minor and tried to negotiate with the undercover officer to video record the sexual activity between him and the minor.
In this exchange, the report says officers were able to then place Gould in custody.
Gould is being held on a $400,000 bond in the Hamilton County jail.
