Senate education committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) released a statement commemorating this year's National School Choice Week.

“Low-income families should have more of the same choices of schools that wealthier families already have for their children. When President Trump signed the tax bill, he opened the door for families to use the tax code to exercise school choice through 529 savings accounts — which was previously only available to help pay for college — to help pay for tuition at an accredited religious or private school. I am going to continue to work to give more American families broader choices of the best possible schools for their children,” said Alexander.

The education committee chairman supports Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.)'s "National School Choice Week" which is being held the week of Jan. 20 through Jan. 26, 2019.

The senator congratulates the students and parents, as well as teachers and school leaders, of charter schools for their "persistence, achievements, dedications, and contributions to education."
