CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Driver makes decision to destroy truck in order to preserve a life
A vehicle traveling the wrong way in Hixson Wednesday caused another driver to crash, and it was all caught on camera.
A man said he was traveling on Cassandra Smith Road when a car veered into his lane from the opposite side of the road.
The driver of the truck, Jake Ketterer, said he made the decision to destroy his truck in order to preserve a life.
A Chattanooga police officer said Ketterer crashed into a speed limit sign Wednesday evening just after 4:00.
A police report claims a Toyota Tundra was traveling west on Cassandra Smith Road when a Chevy Impala veered into the truck's lane from the opposite side.
Ketterer said the situation unfolded quickly, and he was forced to use his defensive driving skills.
"It happened so quick, and all I remember is that I did look up at the speed limit sign because I always try to follow that speed limit there and it had the, it tells you how fast you're going," Ketterer said. "And I saw how fast I was going and I was like good, I'm good, and I looked up and car in my lane and I had to turn off the road and that was my defensive driving kicking in."
Ketterer says he will use this experience as a lesson to teach to his children.
He said it's not about getting from point A to point B. It's about surviving on the roadways.
