UPDATE: Two kidnapping victims safe after chase into North Georgia
UPDATE: A kidnapping suspect is in custody and two females are safe following a pursuit that crossed state lines.
Late Wednesday night, the Georgia State Patrol said a kidnapping suspect led a pursuit on I-75 southbound that crossed the Tennessee-Georgia state line.
A GSP trooper joined the pursuit near the Ringgold exit around 10:15 pm.
The suspect, Brandon Deel, traveled a short distance further before stopping in the middle lane of the interstate.
Officers gave commands to Deel, but he refused to follow them and had a gun in his lap.
A trooper saw that a woman and child were passengers in the vehicle.
"The trooper also observed a possible crossfire situation which would endanger the passengers and officers on scene," a GSP spokesperson explained.
The trooper was finally able to get the driver out of the vehicle and into custody.
The woman and child, who the GSP says are related to Deel, were rescued.
Deel faces multiple charges including:
- Theft of bringing stolen property into the state
- Fleeing or attempting to elude
- Impeding the flow of traffic
- Possession of a firearm during a felony
- Reckless conduct
- Failure to maintain lane
- Cruelty to children
The GSP said Deel is also a carjacking and robbery suspect
