A crash in Polk County killed a woman and injured two others on Tuesday afternoon.

It happened on Highway 314 in Benton around 1:50 pm.

A crash report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) says 58-year-old Deloris A. Stewart crossed the centerline in a curve while driving north and hit a Dodge Caravan head-on with two people inside.

Stewart’s Maxima spun-out and ended up on the highway. The van also spun-out, hit a concrete mailbox post and landed in the yard of a home.

Stewart, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The THP says a seat belt would have made a difference.

The 65-year-old driver of the van and the 64-year-old passenger were taken to local hospitals. Their conditions are unknown.

No charges are expected to be filed in the crash.
