UPDATE: According to a newly released affidavit, we are learning more about the hit and run case that killed a two-year-old boy.

Records show the driver charged in the case, Anwoiane Calloway, was leaving a gas pump at Kanku's Gas Station on Wilcox Blvd. At that time the child ran across the parking lot and was trying to catch up with his father when he was hit. Documents show Calloway got out of his car saw the child on the ground then got back in his car and drove away.

The affidavit states Calloway did not stop to render aid to the child.

Police say the incident was caught on surveillance cameras and the footage was viewed at the scene.

PREVIOUS STORY: Chattanooga Police have charged Anwoiane Calloway, 36, in Monday's gas station hit and run that killed a 2-year-old boy.

He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death or injury, failing to render aid, driving on a revoked or suspended license and not having proof of insurance.

It happened just before 11:00 AM on Wilcox Boulevard near Tunnel Boulevard.

Blue spray paint was visible making the path of the vehicle’s tires.

John Kelly saw the moments right after impact.

“I saw the child underneath the car,” he said, “He wasn’t moving or blinking or anything. I’ll never get that out of my mind.”

Kelly said he and other witnesses ran over to help and try and process what they saw.

Other witnesses told Kelly they saw the toddler walking next to what was believed to be the child’s father between the pumps and the store when the child was struck.

“Somebody told me the baby was walking right next to him and that’s when the guy pulled up and hit him,” he said.

Then, Kelly said he watched the driver of the gray SUV take off, leaving the child on the ground.

“He ran into the trash can at one of the pumps and pretty much destroyed it and then he backed up again and went to exit and jumped the curb and took off left toward the tunnels on Wilcox,” he added.

Police said the driver stopped and called police not far from the scene to turn himself in.

Investigators are questioning him now and piecing other evidence together to figure out what happened.

“They’re trying to determine all of that through witnesses, any video that may exist, anything anyone can provide to us will be part of the investigation,” Lt. Austin Garrett with the Chattanooga Police Department said.
