UPDATE: One killed in Cohutta house fire early Saturday morning
UPDATE: The Whitfield Coroner has released the name of the person who died in a house fire Saturday morning on Crestway Drive.
Samuel Long, 55 died from smoke inhalation when he was unable to get out of the house.
A female who also lived there was able to make it out safely.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
PREVIOUS STORY: One person was killed in a fire early Saturday morning in Cohutta.
The fire broke out around 1:15 am at a home in the 4500 block of Crestway Drive.
Chief O’Brien with the Whitfield County Fire Department said two people were in the home at the time. A woman was able to escape, but a man was not. His name has not yet been released.
The woman was taken to an area hospital for smoke inhalation.
The home was heavily damaged and the cause is under investigation.
