A man died Friday morning while in the custody of the Hamilton County Jail system.

Devonte Allison was booked into the Hamilton County Jail December 16 on a variety of charges including Selling/Delivery/Manufacturing of Meth and Possession of a Firearm from Criminal Court with a bond of $14,000.

Allison was booked having pre-existing medical issues, according to HCSO spokesman Matt Lea.

On December 24th, after experiencing severe seizures, Allison was transported via HCEMS to a local medical hospital where he remained in critical condition.

Lea said in a news release that hospital staff were in contact with Allison’s family and kept them informed of his medical condition and prognosis.

Corrections Division staff permitted Allison’s family to see him before his death. Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office detectives were also notified of Allison’s declining health so as to review and prepare for his passing, Lea said.

As with all in-custody deaths, Hamilton County District Attorney Neal Pinkston has requested the death to be investigated and appointed the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office to conduct the investigation.

The Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.
