UPDATE: A post on the Athens Utilities Board's Facebook page says that crews have successfully repaired the water main break on Fisher Street and have restored service.

Crews are still at work on the bigger issue on Congress Parkway.

PREVIOUS STORY: A series of water main breaks in Athens has left some Athens Utilities Board customers high and dry Wednesday morning.

The breaks come the day after a power outage for some customers on Christmas Day that was caused by a bird.

Wednesday's breaks extend from the intersection of Decatur Pike and Congress Parkway south to the area near the Ingleside Motel.

AUB says the following customers will be out of water until repairs are complete:

  • Simmons Bank
  • SouthEast Bank
  • Clayton Homes
  • Park Crest Apartments
  • US Money
  • Ingleside Motel

The other break is located near the Fisher Street area. Those AUB customers may already be experiencing low water pressure.

AUB says these areas may be affected:

  • Fisher Street
  • Knoxville Avenue
  • N. Jackson Street
  • Clayton Street
  • Winder Street
  • Kelly Street

They warn the repairs may not be quick since the area near Congress Parkway is congested by other underground utilities such as power, natural gas, water, telephone cables, fiber, and a sizable gas pipeline.
