A former Big Ridge Elementary substitute teacher faces aggravated assault charges for allegedly choking a student.

Steve Snyder was arrested by Chattanooga police. 

According to a police report, the incident happened while students were cleaning the classroom. 

Several witnessed Snyder pick up the student with one hand and hold him in the air by the neck for almost 10 seconds.

Family and Children's Services is investigating the November incident, and according to Hamilton County school officials, Snyder is no longer a substitute teacher.

He is being held on a $10,000 bond.
