Approximately 16 firearms were stolen from a Red Bank gun store Thursday.

Dave’s Shooting Supply on Dayton Boulevard was burglarized, and now the store is working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to conduct an inventory to determine the exact number of firearms that were stolen.

Police say that almost all stolen guns are used in a crime, and the ATF says residents should be on the lookout for these weapons.

Michael Knight with ATF says the stolen guns could be in Chattanooga or anywhere in the nation.

Knight says stolen firearms move around fast, which is why he says residents should be careful if they wish to purchase a gun this holiday season.

"Individuals may be looking to purchase firearms either online or in person but should be very cautious because unless you purchase a firearm from a legitimate firearm licensee, that firearm may be very well be stolen not only from this incident but from previous incidents," Knight said.

Knight says that if someone does own a gun, it’s a good reminder to keep your serial number stored separately from your firearm in case it is stolen.

A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered by the ATF for information leading to the arrest and conviction for those responsible for the theft.

The reward amount will be matched by the National Shooting Sports Foundation for a total reward of up to $5,000.

“ATF works closely with members of the firearms industry to curb the criminal acquisition and misuse of firearms. ATF Special Agent in Charge Marcus Watson said, “ATF’s Crime Gun Intelligence will leverage investigative resources combined with community partnerships to recover the stolen firearms.”
