Rain showers today, and a wintry mix by afternoon at highest elevations
Good Morning Tennessee Valley,
Expect light rain showers for the morning commute. Over the last 24 hours, we've picked up 0.75" in Chattanooga. We'll pick up an additional 0.25" to 0.50" by afternoon. By evening, rain showers will be very hit and miss. Temperatures are also dropping today! Our high temperature is occurring this morning. As a northwest wind picks up, wind gusts of 20-30 mph are very likely today. This will bring cold wind chill values by afternoon in the 30s. Any evening plans tonight will bring wind chill values to the 20s!
Black ice will be possible across the Blue Ridge, Ellijay areas early on Saturday morning. I can't rule this out for parts of Signal Mountain, Look Out Mountain, and over the plateau early Saturday morning as well. While gusty winds will help evaporate a wet pavement this evening, slick spots will be possible early tomorrow from freezing temperatures tonight.
Saturday brings increasing sunshine, with temperatures in the upper 40s during the day. We are watching a rain chance for Sunday at this time. At this time, rain showers look to arrive late morning through early afternoon, bribing meager rainfall amounts of 0.01" to 0.10" total. Temperatures will drop to freezing on Sunday night. If models pick up higher rainfall totals for Sunday, we'll need to adjust the forecast for Monday morning, however due to light rainfall, I don't see much of any travel issues for Sunday night and Monday morning at this time.
