UPDATE: Chattanooga Airport to build economy lot, raise parking rates
UPDATE: Chattanooga City Council members are expected to pass an ordinance that will temporarily close of a stretch of Hancock Road near the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport.
That will give construction crews room to build a new economy parking lot.
The lot will feature two free shuttles to bring flyers to and from the airport.
The economy lot is expected to be completed sometime in March.
City Council is set to vote on the ordinance Tuesday, January 8 at 6 p.m.
PREVIOUS STORY: A 520 space economy parking lot with shuttle service will soon be added to the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport as well as a rate increase for parking.
President and CEO, Terry Hart says the Chattanooga Airport is exceeding its expected growth with added routes. Future plans include building a parking deck.
Construction for the new economy parking lot begins in January and is expected to open by the end of March.
Two free shuttles will provide connection to the terminal with pickup every 7-10 minutes.
Parking rates at the Chattanooga Airport have not increased in six years and are considered some of the least expensive in the Southeast.
While the new economy lot and parking garage plans are under development, the Chattanooga Airport encourages all passengers to consider alternate transportation like ride-sharing, taxi, carpooling and bus or hotel shuttle service.
Through March, the airport is giving away several paid round-trip rides to the terminal to reward passengers who choose alternate transportation. Passengers can enter through following the airport on social media.
