Good afternoon Tennessee Valley,

Temperatures this morning have been rather balmy, considering the normal lows are near 32-34. Only dropping to 39 this morning, doing us favors as temperatures will warm to the upper 50s, with a cloudy sky and southeast wind of 5-8 mph. I am seeing the wind picking up tonight for those in north Georgia, and north Alabama after midnight. Those in the Scottsboro area, Dalton, Lafayette, Ringgold, Ellijay, and Blue Ridge regions will likely get a south breeze picking up by midnight, where sustained winds of 15 mph will be possible. By Friday morning wind gusts of 20-30 mph are likely.

Rain will be increasing overnight as well, beginning in north Georgia by 1AM-3AM, lifting into Chattanooga about 3AM-5AM, and towards Spring City and Athens by daybreak Friday. Rain will begin light in the morning, while pockets of moderate rain showers can't be ruled out. I don't see thunderstorms for Friday, while Friday night-Saturday morning a few rumbles of thunder look possible. Severe weather is not anticipated. The biggest impact will be the rainfall amounts, which forecast models have backed off now on, ranging from 0.50" to 0.75" total from Friday morning through Saturday evening.

Rainfall on Saturday looks to be hit and miss, and light, ending by 5PM-7PM or so. Temperatures in the morning on Saturday will be in the mid 40s and highs will reach the mid 50s. This will be an all liquid event. Even Saturday night, temperatures still remain well above normal in the upper 40s!

Sunday will bring broken clouds and mild temperatures. We'll get cooler again heading into Sunday night with lows dropping to the 30s again.

A look ahead to next week shows daytime high temperatures at and slightly above normal for late December. Night time lows look to be near normal with mostly clear skies with dry weather next week!
