UPDATE: Chattanooga police are piecing together what led to a shooting off of East 5th Street.

Stephen Laton Moore was shot and killed early Sunday morning.

The family of Stephen Moore wants answers as to why someone would do this.

"I don't understand why anyone would hurt 'Booty.' Booty wouldn't hurt anybody,” Anna Johnson, Moore's aunt, says.

Johnson and her family are still trying to figure out who would do this to Moore.

He's known to close friends and family as "Booty."

Leaving two children without a father. Something she says is becoming too common in our area.

"It’s not really normal, but it happens every day just about. Every day somebody dies. And it shouldn't be that way,” Johnson said.

Thirty-four-year-old Moore was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chattanooga police are still looking for the person who pulled the trigger.

They are asking for the public’s help in the case.

Neighbors said seeing all of the police lights and caution tape is something out of the ordinary.

William Clark has lived in the area most of his life.

He said this kind of violence can happen anywhere and hopes whoever did this is caught.

"It’s happening all over. You know. There's good people in this neighborhood, but like I say, you got relatives and kids that's out doing other things and bringing it to your house,” Clark said.

Chattanooga police officers were called to the shooting in the 2500 block of East 5th Street just after midnight.
