PREVIOUS STORY: Chattanooga police have charged a woman in a deadly stabbing on Sunday night off Webb Road in the Highway 58 area.
It happened in the 3900 block of Merrywood Lane shortly before 11:00 pm.
Police say officers arrived at the scene to find the victim, 60-year-old George Deramus, unresponsive and suffering from three stab wounds.
Police say Deramus was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police found the suspect, 49-year-old Tavonia Johnson, and arrested her for criminal homicide.
According to the complaint affidavit, Johnson told police that she and the Deramus were arguing when he tried to strangle her on a bed. She said she was able to get away from Deramus and got a kitchen knife she had in a dresser drawer.
Johnson said she stabbed Deramus once in his shoulder when the two of them met at the foot of the bed. When police asked Johnson about the two other stab wounds, she said she did not know how that happened.
Johnson was evaluated for injuries by doctors at a local hospital and later on by crime scene personnel. The complaint affidavit says no signs of injuries were found during both evaluations.
Johnson was taken to the Hamilton County Jail where she is being held on a $350,000 bond.
She is scheduled to appear in court on December 11.
