UPDATE: One killed, one charged in Sunday night crash at the I-75/24 split
UPDATE: One person was killed in a crash late Sunday night at the I-75/24 split.
The wreck happened around 11:00 pm.
Chattanooga police say a Ford Taurus was driving on I-75 just south of the I-24 split in the left lane when it collided with a semi that was traveling in the right lane.
The driver of the Taurus, Ronard Neal, failed to stay in his lane and drifted into the right lane, rear-ending the tractor-trailer "with enough force to break the ride under protection bar," a CPD spokesperson said.
The Taurus went under the semi, and the front seat passenger, 23-year-old Shekem Reed, was killed.
Police say the Taurus then came out from under the semi and slid into the left guardrail.
One adult passenger suffered serious injuries, and two juvenile passengers were not hurt.
The driver of the semi was also uninjured.
Neal faces multiple charges in the crash including vehicular homicide by impairment, driving on a suspended license, aggravated assault and reckless aggravated assault.
