Cleveland church gives food for the body and soul with weekly visits to senior home
The residents at the North Cleveland Towers look forward to their weekly visits and deliveries from Living Water Community Church.
"We've been coming here for the last three or four years and we are delivering produce here every week," Jeff Rogers, Living Water Community Church Pastor, said.
Pastor Rogers said his church delivers over 84,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables a year to the North Cleveland Towers and other organizations as well. They are able to do this with the help of the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.
"We buy 1,700 pounds of food a week for a very minimal cost. It's allowed us to be able to do this as a church and share this . They deliver it to our warehouse; they have been a huge help," Rogers said.
The residents are getting fruits and vegetables, not just canned goods. They are getting healthy food for the body and soul during their regular visits from church members who have become more like family over the past few years.
Mabel Seraker, a resident at North Cleveland Towers, said, "I love it because people get food, and I appreciate the church bringing it, and they are not eating out of the machine. They are eating vegetables."
Rogers said they have eight to 10 church members who come out every Thursday to deliver the food and fellowship with the residents.
"This has been a real blessing a much bigger blessing for us than it has for them, some great folks, it's like our second family," Rogers added.
Mabel Seraker said, "It's a God serving church, and when we get together, it is like our brothers and sisters in Christ."
