Red Bank Police Chief Robert Simpson has resigned.

Simpson said, "it's time for a change."

He told Channel 3 that he has enjoyed his time working for the department, but is ready to take on new opportunities.

"No issues...just 33 years of public service and time to try something else. New opportunities. I had a great time at Red Bank PD and thankful for all those wonderful people that do a difficult job every day.”

John Wright will serve as interim police chief.

Red Bank City Manager Tim Thornberry said they are working on plans on the search for a new chief.
