UPDATE: The Georgia State Patrol has identified the driver who was killed in a crash on I-24 W near the Wildwood Exit in Dade County on Friday.

The GSP said 32-year-old Ramiro Delgado from Roswell, Georgia died in the crash.

UPDATE: A deadly crash closed a portion of I-24 westbound near the Wildwood exit in Dade County Friday afternoon.

Around 2:30 pm, Dade County deputies were called to a head-on collision at the Highway 299 overpass.

A white pickup truck crossed the median and struck a tractor-trailer head-on, a sheriff's office spokesperson explained.

The driver of the pickup truck died at the scene, the spokesperson added.

Traffic was disrupted for hours while Georgia State Patrol troopers investigated.

Dade County Sheriff Cross thanked all of the agencies that assisted with the crash. He also thanked TDOT for being the first on the scene, staying throughout the incident and helping sand the roadway.

Sheriff Cross was quoted as saying, "TDOT workers are the kind of people that don't care about a state line when it comes to saving lives!"

The crash is still under investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: One person was killed in a crash that closed a portion of the interstate Friday afternoon in Dade County.

The crash that involved a tractor-trailer and pickup truck happened around 2:35 pm on I-24 West near the Wildwood exit.

A Dade County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said a person in the pickup truck was killed.

Details of what led to the crash are under investigation.

I-24 West is currently closed just past the Tennessee/Georgia line.

The spokesperson said they hope to open the median soon.

Georgia State Patrol troopers are also working the crash.
