UPDATE: Keon Stewart surrendered and was arrested after a 4-hour standoff with Chattanooga police on Wednesday.

Now, he’ll head to West Tennessee for questioning in a murder investigation.

Police want to question Stewart about the murder of his ex-girlfriend and mother of his children, Amanda Northern.

Court record show Stewart has a history of domestic violence charges. He pleaded guilty to three separate domestic violence charges in 2015, two of those incidents involved Northern.

“The SWAT team told me what was going on and what happened. The young man from Memphis to Chattanooga to get away from a situation that’s probably going to cost him his freedom,” said Devonta Norris.

Norris said his roommate let Stewart and his two kids stay with him in Chattanooga Tuesday night.

He said he believed they were headed to Atlanta. But those two young children were at the center of the state wide Endangered Child Alert.

Police said they noticed the children were missing when they conducted a welfare check at Northern’s apartment in Jackson, Tennessee Tuesday night.

Northern was found dead from an apparent homicide. Police began searching for the two children and their father Stewart after the she was found.

Stewart’s car was spotted about 260 miles away, here in Chattanooga. He was taken to the Hamilton County Jail and the two kids are in the care of the state.

Record show Stewart has a history of domestic violence charges.

One report states his mother called police when Stewart threatened to “put a gun to her head” and blow her home up.

Northern called police on Stewart at least twice, according to court records.

Two warrants show Northern told investigators that Stewart tried to strangle her on two separate occasions in 2015.

Jackson authorities say they plan to transfer Stewart back as early as Thursday morning to question him in the murder investigation.

PREVIOUS STORY: A suspect wanted for questioning in a homicide in Jackson, Tennessee, has been arrested in Chattanooga Wednesday.

Jackson police say 23-year-old Keon Stewart is wanted for questioning in the death of 24-year-old Amanda Northern.

Jackson police found Northern’s body on October 16 at Parkwood Trace Apartments during a welfare check. Police also found Northern’s two children, ages two and three, were missing.

Police say they learned that the children were with their father, Keon Stewart, and issued an endangered child alert.

The children were found with Stewart when CPD arrested him following a SWAT situation on Central Avenue Wednesday morning.

Stewart will be booked at the Hamilton County Jail, and he will await transport back to Jackson for outstanding Violation of Probation and Failure to Comply warrants, and for questioning in the homicide. 

This is an ongoing investigation.
