National Alpaca Farm Day
TMMA Farms is a full working alpaca farm located in Trion, Georgia. This week they are getting ready for National Alpaca Farm Day.
TMMA had been located in Florida for several years. They decided to move to Chattooga County to be closer to family. Of course, there was no hesitation to bring their herd of alpaca, llamas, pigs, chickens and donkeys with them. The property they purchased was a cow farm so a lot of work had to be done to convert it to alpaca needs (removal of barbed wire fencing).
“It is a work in progress,” explains owner, Maryann Marsh. “We are starting our new barn, we are adding to our shop and we're adding a glamping experience so that if you want to stay on the farm it can be a future experience."
And now they’re inviting you to see what it’s like raising alpacas, touch and feel the fleece that they produce yearly and visit their country store for everything made from alpaca fleece.
"Everything in our shop is made of alpaca fleece,” says Marsh. “But our big seller is our socks. Hunters love our socks. They're naturally waterproof so most alpaca products can handle moisture more than most other wool products can."
You can experience National Alpaca Farm Day on Saturday, September 29 from 10:30 to 4:30 and then again on Sunday from 1:30 to 4:30. For more information, click here.
