Dalton PD searching for woman who took money from ATM
Dalton police are searching for a woman who stole $200 in cash that was left behind at a malfunctioning ATM.
The theft happened at the Wells Fargo ATM in the 1300 block of West Walnut Avenue.
Police say the victim told them that the machine failed to dispense any cash after she inserted her card and entered her information, according to Dalton PD.
The victim waited for some time, but left when nothing happened and decided the machine was broken.
When the victim checked her statement later, she discovered there was was a $200 ATM withdrawal against her account.
Her bank told her the machine dispensed her money after she left.
Surveillance video from the ATM shows the suspect drive up to the ATM in a silver four-door passenger car and take the cash without even making a transaction of her own.
"According to Georgia Code 16-8-6: 'A person commits the offense of theft of lost or mislaid property when he comes into control of property that he knows or learns to have been lost or mislaid and appropriates the property to his own use without first taking reasonable measures to restore the property to the owner,'" a Dalton PD spokesperson explained.
