Community walks to share message of hope for recovering drug addicts
People walked across the Walnut Street Bridge in Chattanooga Sunday as a message of hope for anyone in recovery from a drug addiction.
Unity on the Bridge held their first "Hands Across the Bridge" event for recovery. It was hosted by Oxford House of Tennessee.
Deanna McCarter with the Oxford House spoke to Channel 3 about how important it is for someone with an addiction to have that support.
"I think they are trying to raise awareness, not just for Oxford House, but just to get the community involved and to show that they do represent hope and that they do represent sobriety, and to show people they have a chance," McCarter said. "They have an opportunity to get clean, and there are people that support them. And I mean, having the community behind you is a huge thing."
This was the first event in Chattanooga, but they hope to make this a tradition.
