A Chattanooga man has been charged in an August shooting on East 19th Street.

Just before 1:00 am on August 30, a Chattanooga police officer was in the area of East 19th Street and Read Avenue when she heard gunshots, Chattanooga police said.

She found a victim nearby who had been shot in the shoulder.

The victim was taken to an area hospital, and officers with Violent Crimes were notified.

Investigators spoke with several people who described the shooter. They said the shooter, later identified as Jonathan Tabrone Conyers, walked up to the victim while he was standing by his vehicle on East 19th Street and opened fire, the arrest affidavit explained.

Two other witnesses were found during the investigation. They identified Conyers as the suspect. Their descriptions of what happened lined up with the information investigators already knew.

Conyers was charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, possession of firearm while in commission of felony and reckless endangerment. He was taken into custody on Thursday, September 6.

He is being held in the Hamilton County Jail on a $655,000 bond. His court date is scheduled for Monday, September 17.
